Look up 'egocentric bastard' and you'll see a picture of Jae-Ho in the caption. Not that he was actually a bastard child -- the Park family was too prestigious and married to tradition to ever allow that -- but he is incredibly annoying to those that aren't actually close to him. Actually, no, he is really annoying to be around to everyone including those very close to him. If only the cause of such behaviour was a troubled childhood, lack of attention, or, alternately, too much. Rather, it's because he's an entitled bastard who still hasn't accepted the fact he's not yet a League Champion.
And the one event that could have put him in his place, rather launched him on a two-year bender through Unova and Alola in a frenetic quest to heal his ego by racking up as many wins as possible. And win he did -- after all, as the younger brother of Gyu-ri Park it impossible that he didn't inherit the family's prowess for battling with Steel types -- conquering all of the regions, save his own. And at the end of the bender, standing on the shores of Poni Island, did Jae finally accept the reality of his situation: that maybe, just maybe, his sister did deserve the gym and that he should be there supporting her.
It wasn't like their sibling rivalry was new. It'd been there ever since they were children, and usually he was the winner. The one with tenacity, ferocity, and sheer-dumb luck; whereas, she was the more timid, nurturing, second-guessing type. However, that rivalry doesn't overshadow the close bond between the two Park siblings who would do anything and everything for each other. After all, he travelled the world searching out new steel type pokémon and making sure to send Gyu-ri them too.
And now, Jae is finally returning home for good to focus on earning his Johto badges and, most importantly, to support his sister in running the gym. While leadership of the gym isn't in the cards for the immediate future, Jae's now looking elsewhere in the league for his future. But first, he has to keep the gym running while Gyu-ri helps lead the opposition to the destruction to the Burned Tower and to focus on his own battling techniques.
